Facilities Central Utility Plant Operations Technical Expert URS - Columbus, GA, US

URS, an AECOM company, is seeking a 1st shift Facilities Central Utility Plant Operations Technical Expert in Columbus, GA! Typical work schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm; hours may vary based on business demand.

The Facilities Central Utility Plant (CUP) Operations Technical Expert reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the operation, care and advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of the central utility plant and associated equipment, as well as maintenance technical training of the CUP Operation Team.

Equipment includes, but is not limited to: Cleaver Brooks steam water tube boilers (60psi); Carrier industrial 1000 ton chillers; Sullair 200 hp and 400 hp screw type and Ingersoll-Rand 450 hp reciprocating air compressors; EVAPCO cooling towers, water treatment, fire-water systems, emergency generator, and building automation system; and main water, gas, and electrical utilities systems.

Also provides work direction to CUP technicians, coordinates/oversees subcontractor activities, and assists other craft technicians in other facility maintenance trades and services, as needed.

Essential Functions
• Understands and complies with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.
• Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve complex problems, and provide solutions to plant problems.
• Identifies and corrects problems with the CUP equipment such as boilers, chillers, chilled water and condenser pumps, air compressors and cooling towers.
• Develops and trains other technicians, monitors their work assignments, and coaches as appropriate.
• Monitors building automation systems to ensure proper operation of air handling equipment and room temperatures including start up and shutdown, and normal operating conditions. Makes adjustments as necessary.
• Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.
• Reviews daily “Rounds” readings and Shift Logbook entries; submits summary status reports to management on issues and equipment condition.
• Supervises and performs Corrective and Preventative Maintenance work orders per established schedules.
• Understands predictive maintenance methods and implements processes to identify and repair equipment prior to failures occurring.
• Analyzes problems, recommends solutions, and initiates repairs.
• Applies proper safety practices and follows procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
• Repairs piping systems including pumps, motors, and valves.
• Operates and troubleshoots building automation system and electrical control circuits
• Maintains a safe work environment.
• Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Requirements
PEOHR Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Six years of experience as an industrial Central Utility Plant Operator or Stationary Engineer in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent trade school in industrial electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or a related skilled trade.
  • Two+ years of experience in a lead technician role that included developing, mentoring and/or coaching lower level technicians.
  • Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
  • EPA approved Universal CFC certification.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); MAXIMO experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Additional Information

    • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

    Physical Requirements
    • Have the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Have the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs during shift.
    • Have the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
    • Have the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
    • Have the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
    • Have the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
    • Have the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant for shift.
    • Have the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

    Special Requirements
    • Must be willing to work overtime, on shift coverage, on holidays, weekends, and as required to maintain plant services in a reliable condition.
    • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.
