The Siemens Power & Gas - Energy Solutions business is a global leader in the design, build and integration of power plants to meet expanding energy needs in domestic and emerging markets. This Senior Mechanical Engineer position is Orlando based and is a part of our engineering design team.
The entire life cycle of the equipment is managed and coordinated within the engineering team, commencing with proposal support and contract award, through construction / commissioning and plant start-up. You may work with the following components and systems, but not limited to:o Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG)o Cooling Towers (CT)o Air Cooled Condensers (ACC)o Conventional Boilerso Auxiliary Boilerso Rotor Air Cooler Kettle Boiler (RACKB)o Feedwater Heaters (FW)o Deaerator Feedwater Tanko Air Quality Control Systemo Fin/Fan Closed Loop Cooler
RESPONSIBILITIES:o Write generic and site-specific technical specifications for any or all of the above components and systems. Develop Master Document List (MDL) to clarify supplier software deliverables and due dates.o Evaluate competitive bids from suppliers to ensure they meet the requirements of the technical specification. Create bid tabulation to compare proposals from various suppliers. Support Supply Chain Management in conducting e-bids and e-auctions as necessary.o Conduct design review with chosen equipment supplier to ensure all requirements of the technical specification are understood and will be met. Discuss lessons learned from previous projects and what changes can be incorporated to improve quality and reduce non-conformances and delays.o Coordinate with Architect/Engineers, partners, and Customers to support timely transmittal and understanding of supplier technical documents. Participate in Architect/Engineer design reviews as needed to ensure correct integration of mechanical components to the plant design.o Support the Proposals Department in developing proposals for combined cycle plants which require any or all of the above components and systems. Work with suppliers to provide performance data, pricing, and availability to support Proposals Department deliverables.o Ensure on-time delivery of supplier software (documents) for current projects, and expedite as necessary. Review design documents submitted by suppliers and approve or comment. Conduct regular meetings with suppliers to ensure good communication, and keep track of open items through regular reporting.o Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for any or all of the above components and systems.o Ensure all components are thoroughly tested and meet the performance and quality requirements established in the technical specification.o Support commissioning and start-up activities for any or all of the above components and systems. o Conduct readiness reviews, and participate in pre-commissioning activities with supplier Technical Field Assistants (TFAs).o Respond to Architect/Engineer and site requests for information (RFIs); engineering changes to manufacturing information (ECMIs); product change management (PCM) recommendations; and field deficiency reports (FDRs) related to any or all of the above components and systems.o Ensure project equipment and manpower costs are maintained within budget, and minimizing the occurrence and impact of non-conformances. o Maintain database of field deficiency reports (FDRs) related to any or all of the above components. If FDR is incorrectly assigned to the department, provide rationale to support your contention. If FDR is correctly assigned to the department, document root cause analysis and lessons learned to avoid similar problems on future projects.o Conduct continuous improvement meetings with suppliers once project has been completed to improve quality and reduce non-conformances and delays on future projects.o Support any aspect of the team’s objectives that are assigned (not limited to any one discipline within plant engineering).o Perform communication of complex technical and commercial issueso Drive standardization and innovation of thermal equipment and systems described aboveo Initiate department Research and Development projects, ensuring achievement of applicable goals and objectives.o Provide general guidance or train support and/or professional staff.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:o BS in Mechanical Engineeringo 5+ years of progressively related engineering experience.o Fluent in use of SAP document control system.o Experience with the design of plant cooling and condensing components. o Experienced in thermodynamic, mechanical, or structural design.o Analysis and design of power plant system / component operation, start up, and shutdown.o Proficient with several computer aided thermal modeling codes, statistics, risk management, and process design tools.o Well developed English language communications skills (verbal, written and presentation); able to clearly and concisely express information (or data) to non technical associates, peers and management. o Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups. o Attention to detail.o Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities for multiple projects or assignments. o The ability to conceptualize and socialize ideas, make recommendations and gather team consensus to move forward. o Demonstrated ability to work within teams conceptualize and socialize ideas, make recommendations and facilitate team consensus to move forward. o Innovation skills, creativity, willingness to share and explore new ideas.
