Horizon Nuclear Power is currently seeking a Lead Structural Assessment Engineer to support the Design Authority Head of Nuclear Island in providing adequate control and oversight of the design with responsibility for review and acceptance of all structural integrity aspects of the UK ABWR.
The successful candidate will lead the Structural Assessment team and deliver authoritative advice in all technical areas associated with structural integrity. They will review structural integrity aspects of the design, provide support in defining safety and environmental functional requirements and provide support to the GDA led by HGNE. They will be the Design Authority Intelligent Customer for Structural Integrity services provided through Horizon technical support framework.
We are keen to speak to talented individuals about this great opportunity to undertake a key role in Horizon’s Design Authority in defining and maintaining the design intent of the UK ABWR. The Lead Structural Assessment Engineer will be responsible for the integrity of a wide range of equipment including very high integrity items such as the reactor pressure vessel and main steam isolation valves.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated a track record of success and achievement in similar roles leading a team of Structural Assessment Engineers. They will have knowledge and experience of structural analysis, including design by analysis, fracture mechanics, fatigue, corrosion, materials, welding and non-destructive examination. They will be a Chartered Engineer or Scientist and be able to demonstrate considerable knowledge across a broad range of design and safety issues. Ideally they will have previous experience of the review and acceptance of reactor designs and safety cases and will have experience of interfacing with the regulators. Experience of relevant codes and standards, such as ASMEIII, R6 and TAGSI would be an advantage.
This is a great opportunity for a Lead Structural Assessment Engineer to make a significant impact in the development of Horizon as we continue our plans to build two nuclear power stations in North Wales and Gloucestershire.
The role will be based at our head office in Gloucester and will require some travel within the UK and overseas.
