Senior Engineer, Control and Instrumentation WSP in the UK - Coventry (will also consider other UK locations)

WSP Industry is currently looking for an experienced Control and Instrumentation engineer. The role would preferably be based  in our Coventry office owever we would consider applicants for one of our other office locations.

The succesful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise and Control and Instrumentation (C&I) engineering skills for projects undertaken by WSP Industry. You will be required to carry out design studies, safety reviews, generate proposals, estimates & specifications and perform calculations. You will be responsible for cost-effective design, testing, commissioning activities and to produce the necessary reports accordingly.


Core Functions:
To promote technical excellence of the C&I aspects of projects undertaken by WSP Industry.
To comply with office, project & QA procedures/programmes/regulations.  
To operate as a lead C&I engineer on assigned projects.
To provide site and sales support, including the development of proposals.
Specification of equipment and installations relating to, performance of calculations for, inspection, testing and commissioning of:
  • Programmable electronic systems (PES) including PLC, SCADA, DCS, MIS & LIMS, including the preparation of Control Philosophy and User Requirement Specifications.
  • Safety Systems to appropriate SIL rating.   
  • Field instrumentation including temperature, pressure, level and flow devices
  • Vessel Weigh Systems and Weigh scales.
  • Analysers.
  • Modulating and actuated on/off valves.
  • Communications systems and interfacing requirements
Various other tasks and duties which may be allocated from time to time by the C&I Engineering Manager.
Design standards and requirements relating to   pharmaceutical/biopharm/food/hazardous area applications.
Preparation of Installation specification and contract schedules.
Production of C&I drawings using CAD design team.
Preparation of Enquiries and technical bid analysis.
Input to P&IDs.
Technical liaison with Suppliers, Package Vendors and Sub-contractors.
Take part in HAZOPs.
Preparation of Design Safety Reviews and designers risk assessments.
Input to FEED studies including the preparation of man-hours estimates and CoW for C&I scope
To maintain and develop up-to-date knowledge.

  


Desired Skills and Experience

Must have demonstrable experience in the application andspecification of PES systems and in the specification and selection of field   instrumentation.
Highly computer literate.
Ability to work in multidiscipline team and liaise with all disciplines and Client Engineers.
Knowledge of requirements for hazardous area installations.
Specific expertise in one or more of the food processing/primary pharmaceutical/secondary pharmaceutical/fine chemicals industries.
Experience with EPCM Contract Company.
Knowledge of GAMP.
Knowledge of PED.
Knowledge of Safety Systems/SIL.
Personal Profile:
Ability to represent the Company with clients and represent the client in technical discussions with suppliers and other companies.  Required to work as part of a team with minimum supervision both in the design office and on site. 
Good attention to detail. 
Confident and articulate with clients.
Self motivated. 
Logical. 
Analytical reasoning

Must be capable of making effective presentations.
