Job Description and Qualifications

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer at its new manufacturing facility in Palmetto, Florida (Port Manatee/Manatee County).

This position is responsible for creating detailed manufacturing methods, routings, and necessary NC programs to direct the fabrication of highly technical cryogenics process equipment in support of the company’s air separation and liquid natural gas heat exchanger business.

The Manufacturing Engineer is primarily responsible for translating the engineering drawings into comprehensive manufacturing methods and routings for each project they are assigned. This position works closely with all disciplines in the plant to accomplish this goal. In developing the Manufacturing Plan, the Manufacturing Engineers will become the manufacturing experts in the building of the plants product lines. They will incorporate the feedback of all departments into the development of the lines. They will incorporate the feedback of all departments into the development of the Manufacturing Plan. During the execution of the work they will spend sufficient time on the shop floor working with production and supervision to ensuring the production plan is the most efficient possible. The ultimate goal is for the plans to be detailed enough that any employees will be able to complete the work detailed, with a minimum of supervision. This position works closely with mechanical design engineering, project engineers, and facility department to assure appropriate response to various questions and maintain focus on schedule commitments.

Nature & Scope
This position reports to the Port Manatee Planning and Materials Manager. The Manufacturing Engineer is primarily responsible for translating the engineering drawings into comprehensive manufacturing methods and routings for each project they are assigned. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with all disciplines in the Port Manatee Plant to accomplish this goal. In developing the Manufacturing Plan the Manufacturing Engineer will become the manufacturing experts in the building of the plant’s product lines. They will incorporate the feedback of all departments into the development of the Manufacturing Plan. During the execution of the work they will spend sufficient time on the shop floor working with production and supervision to ensuring the production plan is the most efficient possible. The ultimate goal is for the plans to be detailed enough that any employees will be able to complete the work detailed, with a minimum of supervision. Will also be responsible for generating necessary NC Programs for equipment needed in the execution of assigned projects. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible to interface with Engineering to resolve issues which may arise during the planning and fabrication process. The Manufacturing Engineer is also responsible to ensure that material requirements are entered into the facility MRP System in a manner that supports the production schedule. Manufacturing Engineers are responsible to fully understand the current schedule and status, and ensure material requirements are entered in a timely manner.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop work breakdown structures, bills of material and routings for shop fabrication. The routings will include operation details, planned hours, tooling requirements, special process information or specifications and any other information required to perform the work.
  • Liaison between all plant functions to ensure production plan is the most efficient possible and coordinate changes and improvements into the plan.
  • Provide NC programming for manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure material requirements are entered into MRP System to support fabrication schedule
  • Interface with Engineering Departments to coordinate changes and resolve issues
  • Investigate and analyze manufacturing suggestions from shop floor
  • Develop, investigate, analyze and evaluate methods improvements, new equipment needs and other manufacturing technology
  • Job Requirements
    • Bachelors degree in engineering or 7+ years experience in manufacturing environment, pressure vessel, welding, plate metal forming experience strongly preferred.
    • Experience in Material requirement planning in an ERP/MRP system, SAP strongly preferred.
    • Creating and revising manufacturing work instructions (routings)
    • Hands on, history and ability to troubleshoot (RCCA-Root Cause Corrective Action) manufacturing issues and use troubleshooting methodologies
    • Training, history and ability to be a member and even lead manufacturing continuous improvements (Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, 8D, etc.) is preferred, but not required
    • NC Programming experience, SolidWorks - strong CAD background may be substituted
