Volunteer: Flexiteering Event Tescos foodbank Do-it Trust - Slough

About the opportunity
Slough Foodbank Collection at TESCO Extra Wellington Street, Slough on Saturday 21 March 2015. Thank you so much for volunteering to help with the food collection at Tesco. If you haven’t volunteered before, below are some guidelines on what you expect and what you need to do, and for those of you who have, a refresher. Arrival Please arrive 10 minutes before you are due to start so you can sign in with Tesco and be briefed by the supervisor. There are tabards & Slough foodbank badges for you to wear (and return at the end PLEASE!).

What are they looking for?
Entrance 2 or 3 volunteers at the entrances smiling  and chatting to the customers, inviting them to add a few extra items into their trolley for Slough Foodbank and handing out shopping lists which give suggestions on what to donate. You could say something like this “Good Morning , today we are collecting food for Slough Foodbank which helps the local people in crisis. Here is a shopping list, perhaps you could consider adding a couple of extra items into your shopping basket today.” You may be asked further questions about Slough Foodbank . There is a leaflet available at the exit/main Foodbank table or refer to the supervisor.

Practical Considerations
Exit 1 or 2 volunteers collecting donations at the exit and thanking customers for their contribution. After the checkout, there are trolleys for customers to put their donations in. Obviously these trolleys will get full so the donations need to be transferred into crates/boxes and where possible sorted by type. The crates/boxes are then stacked in a supermarket “cage”, ready to be transported to the warehouse. If fresh Pasta are donated please put to one side to be returned immediately (see foodbank Supervisor) There are information leaflets about Slough foodbank at the Foodbank table. If customers would like to support Foodbank financially there are collection tins available and/or Standing Order forms and Gift Aid forms are available. But please only give these out if people specifically ask. Thank you again for being part of this collection, I hope you enjoy it, in the knowledge that we are helping local people who find themselves in a crisis. If you have any questions or any problems on the day please call me. Thank you Jan Douglas Tel: 07565960453, 01753 550303 or Sue Sibany-King on 07939 934233
