Vessel is a new online video venture founded by former founding CEO of Hulu, Jason Kilar and CTO of Hulu, Richard Tom and includes team members from Hulu, Netflix, Twitter and Amazon. As a team we are unusually passionate about the intersection of media and technology and see an opportunity to improve next generation video for creators and consumers of premium short-form content.
We’re looking for a Content Acquisition Manager to join our growing start-up team. The content acquisition team is critical to Vessel’s success. Your mission is to acquire the world’s favorite premium short-form content. You will collaborate with every key part of the business: product, engineering, legal, finance and marketing. Our ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, hungry, self-motivated, tenacious and exudes passion about all things media, entertainment and technology related. Your key responsibilities are:
  • Shape Vessel’s content offering and help build our community of content partners by recruiting and negotiating license agreements with the best creators of digital short-form content.
  • Identify and source new content opportunities, navigate key deal terms, and successfully close new partnership deals. 
  • Negotiate complex license agreements with large and small content providers to secure high-demand content for the service.
  • Help inform and guide senior management on evolving acquisition plans, content trends, financial metrics.  Analyze results to drive improvements in acquisitions strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all operational aspects of Vessel’s relationship with its content partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the digital content community.
  • Help make creators wildly successful and fulfilled.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in a high volume account management, licensing or business development role.
  • Proven ability negotiating and closing complex license or business development agreements in high pressure environments with tight deadlines.
  • A track record of success in content licensing and/or business development.
  • Unusually high degrees of drive, tenacity, urgency and relentless drive to close content deals.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, and fantastic quantitative and qualitative judgment.
  • Strong working relationships with content providers.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm of digital video landscape, including solid understanding of digital video distribution and major content creators/providers.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • MBA preferred.
