How to Write a Resume For the First Time

A great resume will be properly formatted using size 12 font in Times New Roman or Arial type face. You can only make one exception to this rule: when putting your name at the top of the paper, it should be larger than the standard (just make sure it doesn't dwarf the rest of your document). There are five sections that should be included on your resume: Header, Job objective, Education, Experience and Miscellaneous. Follow the steps for each one listed below.
Header - include your name, address, cell and home phone number and a professional email address. Make sure these are current and up to date. If an employer wants to contact you, make it easy on them. They won't try twice, believe me.
Job Objective - this is a statement of what you are seeking. Try to make it concise, but make sure it fits the job category that you are looking to find work in.
Education - list all of the schools that you have attended in the past. Include dates and degrees awarded. Also write down any relevant classes that you have taken relevant to the occupation. Since you are probably long on education and short on experience, use this to your advantage. Some employers will even take education in place of experience (e.g. U.S. government).
Experience - include any and all job held here. This can include full or part time work, internships, co-ops, work study or even volunteer work. There are a whole lot of skills that can be learned from any job, so focus on what you do best here. No job is too menial to list at this point.
Miscellaneous - this is whatever you make of it. Put down hobbies or areas of interest to you. You can also list any awards garnered or certifications that you may have. It shows that you are a well rounded individual that has an interest outside of work Most employers like a person who has a life outside of the office. Make sure to proof read your resume before submission. That's it, good luck!
